Collagen is almost always sold as hydrolysed collagen, also called collagen peptides — the protein is broken into shorter chains so that it dissolves in water. THE TYPES. Types I and III usually come from bovine or fish sources. Type II comes from chicken or cartilage and is sold in smaller doses. Which type a product contains is stated on the pack. THE SOURCE. Bovine collagen, marine collagen from fish and poultry collagen are the three common ones. Marine has a faint odour noticeable in unflavoured powders. Dedicated selections sit in the branches below. SERVINGS ARE LARGE. Ten grams per serving is common, which means a 300-gram tub lasts a month. Capsules contain considerably less per serving and are therefore rarely comparable with powder on price.
