Combination products with calcium and vitamin D are mostly sold as tablets, because calcium requires large doses and therefore large tablets. THE CALCIUM FORMS. Calcium carbonate carries the most calcium by weight and gives the smallest tablets. Calcium citrate carries less but is common across the ranges. Hydroxyapatite appears in a few products and is named on the pack where used. THE FIGURE THAT COUNTS is elemental calcium, not the weight of the salt. The nutrition table gives it. SEVERAL TABLETS PER SERVING is the rule rather than the exception here. A tub of 120 tablets may last a month if the serving is four a day. Count servings. THE VITAMIN D AMOUNT ranges from 5 to 50 µg per serving and is in the same table. MAGNESIUM appears as a third ingredient in several ranges. DOSAGE is stated on the pack and should be followed.
