A blend is two or more protein sources in the same powder. The most common pairing is whey and casein; some ranges add egg protein or milk protein isolate. WHY BLENDS EXIST. Whey dissolves quickly and casein slowly. A blend gives a thicker drink that sits heavier than whey alone, which is why many keep it for the evening or as a snack. THE TEXTURE. Blends are creamier and thicken in the glass if left to stand. That makes them popular for porridge, pancakes and baking, and less popular in a shaker with plain water. HOW TO CHOOSE. Look at the order of the ingredient list — whatever is listed first weighs most. A blend dominated by concentrate costs less than one dominated by isolate, and that shows in the price per kilo of protein. THE BRANDS. Allnutrition and Rule One carry the most flavours and sizes; Evogen and ProSupps narrower ranges.
