BCAA is almost always sold with the ratio between the three amino acids printed on the front: 2:1:1, 4:1:1 or 8:1:1. The first figure is leucine.
THE RATIO. 2:1:1 is the most common and appears in the most ranges. A higher leucine share makes the powder more expensive per gram, and the ratio is always on the front.
POWDER OR CAPSULES. Powder is cheapest per gram and comes flavoured or unflavoured. Unflavoured BCAA is distinctly bitter. Capsules and tablets avoid the taste but cost more.
HOW TO CHOOSE. Compare grams of BCAA per serving, not the weight of the scoop — flavoured powders contain sugar, acid and aroma that weigh something. The figures are in the nutrition table.
