This shelf gathers individual plant extracts that have no branch of their own. It is sorted by plant, not by use. STANDARDISED OR WHOLE HERB. A standardised extract states the content of a marker substance, for example "20% silymarin". A whole-herb powder is the dried plant milled, with no stated content. Standardised extracts cost more and are easier to compare between brands. THE EXTRACT RATIO. Notations such as 4:1 or 10:1 state how many parts of raw material went into one part of extract. A higher figure means a more concentrated powder, not automatically a better product. THE FORMATS. Capsules dominate. Bottled tinctures appear in the Nature's Answer range and are dosed in drops. DOSAGE is stated on each pack and should be followed. Read the warnings — several plants carry their own. THE BRANDS. Swanson carries the most individual plants, NOW Foods the standardised extracts, Nature's Answer the tinctures, Osavi the organic ones.
