A gainer is a ready-mixed powder of protein and carbohydrate, often at a ratio of 1:2 or 1:3. The bags are large — three to six kilos is common.
CALORIES PER SERVING VARY WIDELY. Ranges sit between 400 and 1,300 calories per scoop, and the scoop itself can weigh anywhere from 100 to 350 grams. Always compare per serving and check what a serving weighs.
THE CONTENTS. The protein is usually whey, the carbohydrate maltodextrin or oats. Several ranges add creatine or vitamins; that is in the ingredient list.
