B12

B12 is sold in two main forms and several formats, and the choice is mostly about dose and how you want to take it. THE FORMS. Methylcobalamin is the most common in supplements. Cyanocobalamin is more stable and cheaper. Adenosylcobalamin appears in a few combination products. Which form a product contains is in the ingredient list. THE DOSES. The range runs from 10 µg to 5,000 µg per tablet. The figure is on the front. The daily intake stated on the pack should be followed. LOZENGES dissolve under the tongue and are the most common format at the higher doses. Drops can be dosed freely and are mostly used for children and for anyone who would rather not swallow tablets. PLANT-BASED. B12 in supplements is produced by fermentation and is therefore plant-based in practice. The labelling states whether the capsule shell is too. THE BRANDS. NOW Foods has the widest choice of doses, Jarrow Formulas the lozenges, Osavi the drops.
